A fire safety evening was held at the Cust Fire Station on Monday 9th August. Over 40 children took part in the kids programme and the adults were presented fire safety information specifically targeted at Rural Living. A prize draw saw a number of the new 10-year smoke alarms given away too. Thanks to everyone who came along for a look!
The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a sports event that really tests the fitness, strength and stamina of the competitors. A team of four Cust Brigade firefighters regulary compete in local, national and international events. The Cust Brigade is doing its bit to promote this unique sport through the "Ready On Blue" pages hosted on this website, have a look at the pages under FCC in the menu.
Four members of the brigade took part in the Skytower Challenge on 22nd May. This involved climbing the 51 floors of the Skytower in Auckland clad in full firefighting gear including breathing apparatus. This is a sponsored event with all money raised going to the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation. Johnny, Mick, Ed and Sean all completed the climb, raising $1,420 towards the $192,000 total made by the 420 firefighters who took part in the event.
