The Firefighter Challenge event to be held at Christchurch Airport on Sunday 5 September at 1000 has been postponed due to the Canterbury earthquake.  The event will be rescheduled to a later date.

This event will be a time-trial using full height stars and is a great way to help your preparation for the Nationals.  See the Event Calendar for more info:

 

The Nelson/ Marlborough Top of the South Firefighter Challenge was held in Nelson recently.  This was the first year that the Nelson Firefighter and the Marlborough Firefighter Challenges were combined into one event.  The day saw 28 firefighters competing in the individual events with 7 tandem teams and 7 relay teams.  Check out the Results Page.

 

It seems that the UFBA competition panel have had a change of heart and decided that they will allow Level 1 gloves for the Nationals.  Read the notification on the UFBA site here: http://www.ufba.org.nz/forum/viewthread/16/

The new Firefighter Combat Challenge rules have been released, these will be in effect for the 2010 New Zealand Nationals in October.  Check them out here

There are a few minor changes and clarifications, the more significant changes are listed here:

  • Any PPE can be worn providing that it complies with the relevant standard (AS/NZ, EN, NFPA etc.), therefore NZFS PPE is no longer mandatory
  • Gloves must now be designed and certified for structural fire suppression
  • Total time to complete the course before disqualification has been extended from five to seven minutes
  • The Hose Advance task now uses 41mm hose, previously this task used 45mm hose
  • Relay teams may now consist of three to five members, this used to be a team of four.
